This piece began with a chaotic, splashy underpainting — spontaneous and energetic. I layered over it with bold, solid blocks of dark and light tones, allowing the textured base to subtly peek through.

The contrast between the controlled, heavy surfaces and the layered background gives the work depth and dimension. I love how the richness of the colour blocks holds so much more when built on top of something wild.
